Apple has been repeatedly bashed for focusing too much on iOS devices, to the detriment of their core computer product line. (They took people off of working on OS X to finish fixing things on the iPad, etc. etc.)
Now, it sounds like they're trying to bring the focus back to the Mac again for a little while, and people are complaining??
Why would you feel a need to get a new cellphone every single year? Contracts tend to run 2 years, discouraging you from upgrading that often anyway. But regardless, all of the recent "smartphones" I've seen are built well enough so they'll easily hold up for a good 2 years of use. All of the things I'd really need to do on a mobile phone will work fine next year, just the way they work this year. Even if you're just hung up on having "the latest thing"? If Apple delays release of the iPhone 5, then the 4 remains the "latest thing" from them for a while longer.
More to the point of the original topic though? I can definitely see why this WWDC would be a critical one, in many ways, to talk about a lot of software changes! Apparently, the Linux community is rapidly switching over their software to the "GPL3" license, which has a lot of "gotchas" in it that try to restrict what commercial businesses can do with the code. Essentially, they're trying to keep companies like Apple from benefiting from their free, open-source projects, and keep them for Linux users instead. The Apache web server is moving to a GPL3 license, for example, as is the gcc compiler and Samba.
Apple has to start moving to alternate products for all of this core functionality and get developers up to speed on the changes, or we're in for a LOT of reduced functionality in future OS X versions.
That's just getting complacent in my opinion, people like myself like changing phones yearly, no new iPhone means no return business, I'll try something else instead, bad move if true.

No more will there be a year between speed increases etc.
Remember, we're almost at 6 months with the Mac Mini, and it's seen neither a chip upgrade nor a speed bump.

I thought that would be the upgrade this year... nothing special like the 3gs update.
If I can't run iOS 5 then maybe but i'm sure I could run it on my iphone 4

A lot of these will be in a work environment where wireless networking would be a hinderance more than a help. If anything, they should bundle it with the same price and subtract 49$ if you take it off of BTO.
Yep. Where I work, something where an iSight, bluetooth or Airport can't be removed doesn't come in the door.

Perhaps in the same way that Apple previously pulled OSX software engineers to help polish iOS, they're now focusing on getting Lion out the door?
Either that or a decent notification solution is still eluding them :P

Personally, I think we need to increase taxes across the board.
Which is exactly what I said. But you couldn't help twisting the dagger a little bit by saying ...
Democrats - "I am in favor of increasing government taxation, and I have the opportunity to put my money where my mouth is by voluntarily paying more taxes, but I am nonetheless not going to if other people don't."
So are you, on your own, going to voluntarily give money to the government? Or do we get to lump you in with your description of Democrats?

Flat taxes are always very regressive, basically the reason why this is a bad idea, is that the people it effects are mostly the ones who can't afford it. and the rich will just sit on their money and not spend a lot and not benefit the economy.
And for the poorer people it would create more reliance on social security and medicare, because now what little money they used to have to save has been taken in the massive tax hike they would just get.
I'm not saying that we don't need reform of our tax system, but a flat tax isn't the way to do it.
How do you feel about inflation? To me, inflation is the most regressive tax.
There is also the incorrect notion that "spending" is what drives an economy, that if a rich person doesn't "spend" their money then he or she is not benefiting the economy. What our economy currently needs is less spending and more saving. Savings and investments create jobs, not consumption.

I was about to say, "What?! And lose the Windows compatibility they bragged on so much with the Intel transition? You're kidding me!", then I remembered that Windows 8 is also rumored (confirmed?) to run on ARM.
This might actually happen..
Yes, hmm... You bring up an interesting point of view here.
Windows 8 do currently run on ARM, yes:
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/microsoft/ces-microsoft-shows-off-windows-8-on-arm/8339
Not sure if MS decides to ship it for ARM or not (working in a controlled tech demo doesn't imply a finished stable release in the Windows 8 timeframe), but what matters here is that Microsoft is absolutely moving to support ARM either in Windows 8 or later.

it definitely is a strong consideration with a few add'l features for $10 more ... including that it works w/ both iphone and ipod touch, works w/ cases/skins, rotation notches seem firmer, and bluetooth works while off mount ... if you can get over the overall cost, the extra $10 is probably worth it.
i received the TT car kit as a gift ... and enjoying it every day :D
Yeah, the cost is not a huge issue for me as with either car kit, I get a permanent dock that I can pop my phone into and get enhanced gps service, charging, bluetooth speakerphone, and line out to my stereo system. It's pretty good from one unit. Glad yours is working out for you!

Nope, but considering the level of math it takes to do taxes, he could :D. Should I ask him if he would do yours for you?
Well thanks for being so generous. But I prefer to pay less taxes, so 2 is still a better calculation than 288.:D
What kind of ECU you pirate? Vehicle's ECU?

I agree but think likely by Thanksgiving. I think mini will get the 1.6 GHz Core 2 Duo Combo and 1.87 GHz Core 2 Duo Superdrive upgrades thus ending the last Mac to have only one core as well as the end of all 32-bit Macs. :)
OK, being an Australian, and blissfully ignorant to the ways of the American, when is Thanksgiving? Before or after Paris?
I say new iPods at Paris, and maybe some software. It would be great if all Macs were Core 2 Generation before the Paris Expo.

Samsung even copied the iphone 4 design for their Television Remote Control.
hmm. metal or metalish looking band around sleek black. Samsung = KIRF
To be a fly on the wall in their design meetings. hmm... lets copy the iphone. people like that design.
http://myiphonenews.com/they-say-imitation-is-the-greatest-form-of-flattery-so-samsung-must-loooove-the-iphone/
Also look and feel is the essence of these gadgets. These people aren't designing cars and rocketships. It's some simple glass and metal. The look and feel is all they got and it's those subtle differences that matter.
How it feels in your hand, the suble curves, how your hand interacts with the glass. Sounds dumb but i'm sure massive testing and trial and error goes into this. Well at least i'm sure it does at apple and then samsung copies it.

More likely that they are producing a higher res iMac display first.
And this site has the most archaic, convoluted commenting sign-up/system I have ever seen. It should be abolished and replaced with Facebook Comments. How many distinctions of value are there really to be said about feature-limited Mac products anyway. Don't mistake this as a critique of Apple.

I remember in elementary school, learning about the metric system since we were all going to switch to it. That never happened. I wonder why....
Too hard for some people to learn and there's already a system that works just as well in place.

What we should get:
Movie Service with 1280x720 movies, Airport Extreme AV with composite, s-video and hdmi outputs.
What we will get:
Movie service with 320x240 movies, Airport Express AV with compostie and s-video only.
:(
nope (the latter). Apple wouldn't have been waiting this long. this would be an announcement for the 1st of April. Apple has been preparing for years (since opening the movie store) to bring on movies for $9.99 to $14.99 at 320x240.
Seriously. TV shows in this resolution are okay for $1.99 and for watching on your iPod when you're on the go. That's great. But Apple is delivering the whole package. As they did with iPod+iTunes. Now there's a frontend in the line for your TV. And you are sitting on your couch. As you were on the go with your iPod. Either media center or streaming solution. And it will be at least DVD-quality if not 720p. No prob with a H.264 at 2-6 mpbs. Files for a 90 minute movie at 700 mb (near-DVD-quality) to 4.5 GB (HD 720p).
I just hope for a renting solution as this is what people do with MOVIES.
Comparison MUSIC ---> MOVIES
solution: on the go ---> on the couch
license: owning ---> renting
price: $.99 ---> $3.99
That is an Apple way of doing. If they have another solution: bring it on; it's gonna make sense.

I wonder if it will work on the newer models that are made out of Aluminum, or only the older plastic ones?
they should update their icons.
Sorry, but it will only work on the models made out of Aluminum-Kryptonium Alloy. :(
So plastic is out of the question; sorry!

Didn't you read that it is a Universal Application requiring OSX 10.4 or higher???
Your Mac could have a paper case and as long as it meets those requirements it will work!

I hope it will be a GSM phone. If the AppleBerry rumors are true, then that would be sweet, too.
If it's not GSM it will be a massive failure. Focusing on a relatively small under developed market (the US) would be silly when a vibrannt global market is out there. Europe, Japan, and most importantly China (proobably the biggest growing market for phones) all work on GSM.

Apple would only be hurting themselves if they waited until the Fall.
People are ready for a new iPhone. If it doesn't come out by June, some will lose patience and buy an iPhone 4, or worse, will be tempted by the false promises coming from every phone offering 4G service.

Pricing is fairly high when compared to external drives one can purchase. But the convenience of having your data WHEREVER you are is extremely tempting. Has anyone tried pogoplug before? It seems like an affordable solution to the cloud with its one time fee, but I'm not sure what the download speeds are like.
